MedSim Eagle NIBP
21.11.2002 at 08:39:44

The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia has a MedSim Eagle simulator. We are having problems with the NIBP reading accurately. The analog input channel 4 constantly reads 9.9 volts on the link screen.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is?

Here is a late response. I got this from the engineer that is running our simulators. Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately) we are using METI simulators instead of the Eagle system.

What type of NIBP is Iowa using? How is that NIBP driven by the Eagle system? Is the actual cuff used (like METI), or does it fake it somewhere else? Have they tried the NIBP on a person? Did it work? Have they tried a different type of NIBP? A different one of the same type? Have they recently changed any hardware or software on the Eagle system?

The Eagle uses a real NIBP system. As the cuff is deflating under the control of the cardiovascular monitor, a servo-controlled pump puts pressure variations on the tubing to the cuff that mimic variations that would be observed in real life. The error in pressure measurement was corrected when I discovered a leak in the tubing to the servo pump.
